Did you know that all tea comes from a plant called Camellia sinensis? Trying saying that 10 times in a row! With so many different types of teas available in the world today, the taste will only vary by the area and the conditions it was grown in, the time of year the leaf was picked and the method that is used to process the tea. Just think of tea quality the same as you think of wine.
Tea and the gang premium teas are taken from the best estates all over the world and form our black, green, white and Oolong teas, we also have some herbal and rooibos blends that do not contain the camellia sinensis plant and are caffeine free. Each type of tea has its own unique characteristics including a different taste and various health benefits.
So what is the different types of tea?
White tea is the purest and least processed of all tea. It’s name comes from the small white hairs that can be found on the dried tea. White tea has been reported to contain high amounts of anti-ageing antioxidants.
Green tea is regarded as another pure tea process. Only the young leaves and buds are picked and heated to prevent oxidation. Green tea has been said to carry many health benefits and is very popular with health conscious consumers.
Oolong is a very traditional Chinese type of tea and sits in between green and black tea in the oxidation process. Oolong is said to have strong links with weight loss and can be brewed strong to enjoy the full taste.
Pu-erh tea comes from China and is known by its distinct earthy flavor. Pu-erh is tea that has been fermented and often stored underground for several years, although new methods have been devised to speed up the fermentation process.
Black tea is the most popular tea on the market, if you have ever drank Earl Grey or English breakfast teas then you have drank black tea. In China black tea is actually called Red Tea due to the colour when brewed. This is the most oxidized form of tea and contains many health benefits like oral fighting bacteria.
This dried green tea power is our superhero. Matcha has so many health benefits. It is rich in nutrients, antioxidants, fiber and chlorophyll. The health benefits of matcha are far greater than any other green teas because matcha drinkers drink the whole leaf, not just the brewed water. One glass of matcha is the equivalent of 10 glasses of green tea in terms of nutritional value and antioxidant amounts. Did you know the best ceremonial grade matcha comes from Japan? Herbal tea does not contain any leaves from the Camellia plant and is sometimes called tisane. Herbal teas can be divided into three types: rooibos teas, mate teas, and herbal infusions. Herbal infusions consist of pure herbs, fruits and flowers. We highly recommend these teas as either hot tea or used as ice teas due to their strong distinct flavours. Herbal tea is an excellent option for that late night cosy drink because of the zero caffeine.
Rooibos tea is made from the South African red bush plant and is naturally caffeine free. Rooibos is said to relieve tension, boost the immune system and balance blood sugar levels in diabetics. Rooibos is a great tea to have late at night and it even tastes great with a dash of milk.
So there you go, we hope you now understand the different types of tea. It is the most adaptable drink for your mood at any given moment such is the flexibility of it.
