Driving Iceland’s Ring Road

Driving Iceland's Ring Road

Today we are Driving Iceland’s Ring Road and are lucky enough to be taken around the beautiful countryside of our neighbours and friends in Iceland by the talented will_ryan

In July of 2016, my girlfriend and I embarked on the most incredible road trip we could imagine: driving Iceland’s entire Ring Road. After months of researching, planning, and mapping, we left Chicago for Keflavik. We immersed ourselves in the culture and spent ten days exploring otherworldly landscapes, eating seafood caught earlier that day, dodging countless sheep scurrying across the road, and watching the sun rise at 2am.

Every turn we made we were greeted with something fresh and new. We’d go from lush green to fields of lava rock in a matter of miles. When you’re used to the world’s most boring road trips (sorry, midwestern United States), 6 hours of driving in Iceland felt like 30 minutes because it was so exhilarating.

The locals we met and stayed with were all so warm and inviting, and we loved chatting with them over the delicious breakfast spreads they prepared. Everyone we met greeted us with a smile and thankfully spoke great English (some of them even better than native speakers back home).

Before we could even blink twice, our ten day adventure was over. Thankfully we have tons of photos, videos, and memories that put Iceland at the top of our list for best vacation.
