Lille Hauts-de-France

Lille Hauts-de-France

Today we head to Lille Hauts-de-France, as urban explorer mindwide takes us around this beautiful city with some amazing rooftop photography.

Lille my playground

I was born in a small town close to Lille and grew up in this metropolis, living here for 35 years. I discovered photography about 7 months ago. At the beginning it was hard to understand how aperture, shutter speed and ISO work together. Then to stand out from other photographers, I’ve started to look for new angles for my pictures. I found some videos on the web talking about urban exploration. I knew immediately it was my way to re-discover my city.

Lille is an old town, most of buildings were built in the 1700’s like the ‘Vieux Lille’ so there isn’t a lot of tall buildings. I started exploring the common places to find the uncommon way to see them like hidden rooftops. Urban Exploration requires a lot of research to find how and where I can access to the rooftops. When I started to post on Instagram a lot of people came to me to ask “how did I go there, or there?” I just got along with two of people that I can call photography friends (@anonygrapher and @thomas_mrl ) to explore new rooftops in Lille. It’s important to make urban exploration with people just in case you are injured or fall.

We explore our city most of the time at the evening or night to be discret. When I am on rooftops time seems to stand still, every moment makes me feel free.

What is your favourite place to have a cup of tea? #teawithaview

There’s a lot of places I was enjoyed to come to. Because every rooftops is unique by his view. I think my favorite place of Lille to have a cup of tea is ‘La Grand Place’ because it’s the heart of my city.

As soon as the sun is shining, you can see a lot of people walking, sitting or having a drink in the lounge bar around there. I can spend hours on the top of this place, just watching my city’s Life.
